4 Ways to Enjoy Cats’ Company When You Can’t Have One At Home

Eager to get your kitty fix? We've got you covered, but first a little heads-up  from the team at Curious Cat People.  We created this article with the glass is half full idea that all of these options are open and available.  Which with the ever-shifting COVID situation we know can't always be true.  Between the time we write this and you read it, there is the very real possibility that some of these options are not available. So please, check with the appropriate organisations, cafes, etc directly to make sure you can participate!  And of course, stay safe and healthy.

Cats are great pets to have! Of course, not everyone can have a cat at home. Whether it’s due to the cost, building restrictions or family members allergies to cats. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get your cute kitty fix in Singapore.

Let’s take a look at 4 ways you can hang out with cats even if you don’t have one.

#1 Volunteer

One of the best ways to hang out with cats is through volunteering!

Reputable cat charities help rescue, rehabilitate, educate and re-home cats around Singapore. These organisations take in many cats that need help, especially community cats or kittens that are unwanted. They also have a great need for suitable donations like food and cat toys. Why not give a tasty SmartHeart treat to some rescued cats?

By volunteering, you can hang out with your favourite cats while helping them out by assisting in cat rescues, caring for rescued cats or even by running fundraisers. If you're able to take in a kitty for a short period of time, you may also want to consider fostering.  Check out our recent article all about it here.

#2 Help Out Community Kitties

Stray cats can be found in most HDB estates around Singapore. Unless they’re sick or injured, most of these community cats are left alone as they don’t typically negatively impact the community. They’re also typically used to humans and can be very friendly!

Help these community cats by engaging in responsible feeding, arranging for their sterilisation and ensuring they are in good health! You could even consider bringing a toy like a FuzzYard Meowquila Cat Plush toy with you for added fun!

#3 Visit a Cat Cafe

Don’t have community cats around? Don’t worry!

There are plenty of great cat cafes in Singapore. These cat cafes are wonderful places to rest and relax with friends and family - and your newly made feline friends! Many cat cafes have a few cats roaming in the cafe for you to pet, play with and get to know, and serve a variety of snack, drinks or sweets to brighten your day as well.

Consider bringing a toy like a KONG Wubba Bunny cat toy along the next time you visit a cat cafe! Some cafes may not let you feed the kitties snacks, but playtime is almost universally welcomed!

#4 Artwalk around Town

HDB estates aren’t the only places with community cats! Many areas closer to the center of town have their fair share of kitty cats too.

The next time you’re in town and looking for something to do, why not try taking a tour around local art-related landmarks and try spotting any cats you might see around. A nice stroll can not only help you get your kitty fix, but can be good for the mind and the body!  Nurture your creative side by trying to spot hidden cats painted on the sides of building or find some cool kitty themed art. Check out the artwalk site for some inspiration.
